All region band tryouts were held at Searcy High last Saturday.
“We are trying our for all region, and it’s a big competition with all of the bands of the region,” said junior Abby Rains. “You play a prepared piece, scales, and a sight-reading piece.”
“Members of all bands are competing in their same instrument group to see who can get a spot in the All Region and then hopefully get to All State in a few months,” said junior Joe Faith.
Students have had the opportunity to prepare for this day for a while, some have capitalized on the opportunity for a while, while others not so much.
“I can’t remember exactly, but we have had few months to prepare; some have prepared and some have slacked off,” said Faith.
“Well, some of us have practiced for a month, but most start a week before,” said Rains.
Even though some of the students are prepared to tryout, they are still nervous to play their instrument.
“I really hate trying out because of my nerves. I really think my nerves get the best of me. My biggest challenge is definitely getting over my nerves,” said junior Shelly Rowland.
“I think I prepared, the music has been selected today, and the scales, I think I can do descent as long as I don’t get nerves, which I have an attendency to do,” said Faith.
Although there are many band members that try out for All Region, only a select few will be chosen to play in All Region.
“Twenty-six clarinets, twelve percussionists and six saxophones; it varies,” said Faith.
The All Region concert was Saturday night in the Benson Auditorium.
