Junior pitcher uses experience in game

Screen Shot 2014-04-21 at 2.51.56 PM Alisha Edmunson is a junior pitcher for the varsity softball team here at Searcy High School.

Her love for the sport started at an early age.

“I started playing softball when I was five, but my love for softball started at age 9,” said Edmunson.

She continued playing softball despite being told that she wasn’t good enough.

“I started playing because it seemed fun, but when I was nine I wanted to try pitching and my coach told me I wasn’t good enough, I decided to pay him back with strikes,” said Edmunson. “My first year at Searcy was last year and being a pitcher, I am constantly trying to get better so, I think I have improved a lot. I take lessons at Fastpitch and hit into a net.”

The girls even practice their pitches and hitting before a game.

“Usually Felicia and I will start hitting and just talk about the returning starters from last year, then we go throw and I pitch while we both work on the pitch I have,” said Edmunson.

Not only has her softball skills grown, but she also improves herself in other areas

“I work on improving myself and seeing what I can do better as a teammate,” said Edmunson.

She has other hobbies besides softball.

“I enjoy hanging out with my friends, making quotes and hanging them on the wall. I also play volleyball and ultimate during the summer,” said Edmunson.

Playing softball that many years has resulted in many great memories for Edmunson.

“My favorite memory from playing softball has been all the friendships that have come because of my love of softball. I have met and befriended some pretty amazing people with some really amazing stories,” said Edmunson.

The team has had a rough year so far, but has good expectations for the rest season.

“We are in a bit of a slump. Our season has started out rough but we are constantly doing better,” said Edmunson.

However, Edmunson is taking the game slow.

“I am taking it one game at a time and one pitch at a time,” said Edmunson.

She is positive changes in the team are sure to come.

“The team will not be the same next year. Three seniors will be gone and we will have to pick up where they left off. Our seniors have all made this sport even more enjoyable. They make us better constantly by pushing us to do our best,” said Edmunson.

This year’s team continues getting closer as the year progresses.

“We have really bonded this year,” said Edmunson.

Even though Edmunson will be on the team another year, her softball career may not end after high school.

“I hope to continue playing after high school. Being a junior I am not sure where I would like to go but I have some places in mind,” said Edmunson.
