Students, teachers endure pain of flu shots

Students and teachers took advantage of free flu shot when the state health department showed up for a flu clinic recently

SHS Freshman Brooklyn Rice says”That the flu shot is a shot that prevent’s you from getting the flu”

Laura Beth Philips, nursing student said the clinic is something that helps students, teachers, and parents.

“It enables us to shy away from the symptoms of the flu,” Phillips aid.  “You could still get the flu when you get the flu shot but it won’t be near as bad.”

All students and teachers could take this opportunity to get the flu shot but only about 200 took advantage of the clinic.

“I don’t like needles but I still prefer this instead of the flu,” senior Mercedes Anderson said.

In the past the only option was getting the actual shot, but this year the students got to choose between a mist or a traditional shot.

“The shot is a dead virus, and the mist is actually a live virus,” SHS Nurse Tammy Bishop said.

Bishop said a lot of parents encourage there children to get vaccinated.

“It’s actually good for three months with immunity for the flu,” Bishop added.

Flu shot are still available through the health department office in Searcy. Call 279-6202 for more information.
