People from the community gathered for a 5k run in remembrance of Micah Rine who was murdered by her husband in 2009.
Micah’s father, Dennis Rine, who is a counselor and teacher at Harding Academy was happy
with the number who participated.
“The turnout is just fantastic,” Rine said. “We had 190 preregistered and then there were over 40 that walked up the day of the race. So we were over 200 for the walk and the run.”
At the race, runners of all ages came out to support the Rine family as well as a celebrating the opening of a wellness center that has been built in her honor.
“You know, it just takes a lot of work to get it together,” Rine said.
“But boy it was a great day and I think it was worth it and it was just good stuff.”
Rine said he was surprised at the amount of community support.
“It’s very humbling because when we started getting the preparations together, we thought, well, 100 people for a turnout on a 5k isreally good, and we’re well over double that,” he said. “So, it’s just been an overwhelming blessing [and] very humbling. it’s a great community and a great school, and we just appreciate everything everybody has done through the community…”
All of the runners gave it their all, and after the race, the top runners were recognized at the following awards ceremony.
