Swim team competes despite lack of pool

The Searcy High swim team swims year round in both the fall and spring.  Their first meet was in November and they have competitions throughout the year until the state finals at the end of February in Fayetteville.

Despite being formed only a few years ago the swim team has overcome many challenges since the start of the season.

“We are at a disadvantage,” says Coach Chad Price.  “We are one of the only communities without a community pool or a high school pool.”

Despite this hardship the swim team has produced all district and all state champions over the past few years. They use the pool at Harding University to practice.

One of the unique aspects of the swim team is that every student gets to swim in each event.  Each swimmer swims every event so that they can be well-rounded swimmers.

“We have a really good group of young junior high swimmer coming up and this will probably one of the best teams we have had,” Price said.

To achieve success the swim team undergoes lots of training.

“I really enjoy the athletes that are self driven and motivated to swim for themselves and not for everyone else,” Price added.

If you would like to join the swim team Coach Price highly recommends it.

“Swimming is a very healthy sport; anyone that comes in and trains will get to compete,” said Price.
