Gym Stars take cheerleading to extreme

In Searcy, one of the many things to do is competitive cheer at Gym Stars.  Gym Stars teaches cheer as well as tumbling and dance.  Many SHS girls participate in cheerleading at Gym Stars.  One SHS senior, Alexis Worsham, enjoys being a Diamond.

“I like competitive cheer because it gives me something to do and it’s fun and I’ve done it for a really long time,” Worsham said.

Madi Williams, a senior at McCrory High School, also enjoys competitive cheer.

“I like competitive cheer because it’s really fun and it gives you a chance to bond with all the girls and meet new people,” she said.

Many of the girls devote much time and many weekends to practices and competitions.

For Worsham, practice is the worst part about cheering.

“My least favorite part is practice,” she said. “I hate practice because we get yelled at sometimes and we have to condition and I hate to condition. I hate to work out, and sometimes it’s just not fun.”

Williams admits her favorite part about Gym Stars is all her friends she gets to see.

“My favorite part would have to be all the girls that I get to see every week,” Williams added.  “I kind of look forward to it just because it kind of gets me away from my school.”

The girls travel to many different states to compete in national competitions.  Gym Stars is a great place to go and learn to cheer and it’s a great way to make friends.
