School club fulfills Christmas lists of less fortunate

Searcy High School’s Spanish Honorary club recently traveled to Walmart to buy gifts for the Angel Tree. The students purchased items such as clothing, toys, and other things for people of all ages and genders.

Lori Nielsen, a Spanish teacher and head of the project, said, “…this year we adopted four children so we bought clothes and toys…then we also adopted four senior citizens.”

Junior Laurel Fitz noted that she and another member of the club, “I shopped for one elderly woman with Kenneth Wilson and we got her some gloves, socks, and sweaters.”

The funds for the gifts came from the cookie dough fundraiser that the students participated in a few months back.

“The students earned the money by selling cookie dough and then we used it to help others,” Nielsen said. “…I just like to help as many people as we can and since we had a fundraiser, we can use that money, ya know, to help people in the community.”

The motivation for this shopping trip was definitely in tune with the Christmas spirit.

” It’s like, a really good opportunity to actually do something for someone else and…Christmas…you give people things so it’s a good thing,” Fitz said. “It was pretty cool. I like to know that I’m going to make someone happy because of what I did.”
