Student stress builds as semester ends

Instead of holiday cheer filling the halls of SHS, there has been quite the increase of tension due to various reasons. Some students have noticed an increase in their work load.

Jasmine Wright, a Senior at Searcy high school, has very unique claims about the amount of homework she’s been getting.

“I’ve just been so stressed that I can’t seem to get any sleep and then I turn grumpy,” Wright said.

Another student feeling the pressures of the high school lifestyle is Micah Tipton, a sophomore.

“It’s like all of my homework takes the place of my entire social life, and I can’t get any sleep because it all either,” Tipton said.

There is hope for a break and some time to rest away the past 4 months though. As fast this semester has come, it will also go until 2012.

“I absolutely can’t wait to just sit around and do absolutely nothing for a whole 2 weeks,” Tipton said about the upcoming Holiday break.

Wright is also feeling anxious for Christmas break.  “I’m just ready to be out of school and be able to relax.” Wright said.

With all this stress, the question has to begged of where all this stress might be coming from? Many students have passed the blame on to teachers, and the teachers do have a collective response.

Beverly Joyner, one of the History teachers here at SHS, replies that “I know that it is a lot of work, but I do try to pay close attention to the amount of work that students receive.”
