Review: Coldplay’s ‘A Head Full Of Dreams’

Searcy (LP) On its latest album, ‘A Head Full Of Dreams’, Coldplay sounds like a band gearing up for the big times.

Everything sounds more impressive, more catchy. And the references to winged creatures and distant stars are everywhere on this album.

Coming off the surprisingly somber Ghost Stories, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Christ Martin, Will Champion, and Phil Harvy unleash a seemingly endless torrent of memorable choruses.

Norway’s Stargate production team, known for producing hits for stars such as Rihanna, Beyonce, and more, lends a hand in the album, as well as acclaimed Swedish singer Tove Lo and Beyonce herself.

The band received help from legendary producer Brian Eno and spiced up its songs with exotic flavors — A bit of progressive rock, a dash of Middle Eastern sound, etc. All of these sounds combined give Coldplay’s dreamy songs enough of a twist to make them undeniably interesting.

Along the way, the quiet-voiced juggernaut has sold a myriad of albums, making them one of the most consistently successful acts of this century.

‘A Head Full of Dreams’ embraces the pop world more readily by improving upon Coldplay’s trademark sing-along vocals and chiming guitars, pairing them with dance beats and cowbells to produce a unique sound not heard anywhere else.

Compared to the last album, ‘A Head Full of Dreams’ is a bona-fide party.
