Are you pinterested? New social media lets users share interesting ideas, pictures

Pinterest, a free app, has become popular around Searcy in the recently. If you were to ask any female between the ages of 14 to 40, they would know and maybe even have this app.

One former SHS student uses Pinterest almost every day.

“I’ve had Pinterest since December, which has been since I got engaged,”  Erica Stewart said. “A friend told me about it beforehand, but I never thought about it till the engagement.”

Pinterest is all about connecting everyone in the world through pictures of their shared tastes and the things they find interesting. ‘Pinners,’ people who pin or re-pin pictures of their interest, label and create theme-based image boards and populate their own boards with pictures taken or found online using the ‘Pin It’ button. Suggested boards include: products I love, favorite places & spaces, books worth reading, my style, for the home, and food.

“I love the organization of the boards, it makes everything so stress free. I have several boards on wedding things such as: cakes, themes, colors, dresses, shoes, flowers, etc.,”  Stewart said.

A pin is an image added to Pinterest. Pins show up on the homepage through a feed or a board that gives the pinner re-pinning activity,

‘like’ activity, and comment activity to anyone “following” another pinners board.

“I do a lot of re-pinning,” Stewart said. “I like to get people’s opinion on my wedding pins, because with so many different pictures I can decide which is best by others likes and comments.”

Pins can consist of subcategories of: architecture, art, cars & motorcycles, design, DIY & crafts, education, film, music & books, fitness, food & drink, gardening, geek, hair & beauty, history, home décor, humor, kids, my life, women’s apparel, men’s apparel, outdoors, people, pets, photography, print & posters, products, science & nature, sports, technology, travel & places, wedding & events, other, everything.

An e-mail request for invite is required in order to join Pinterest. Log in can be done using a social media account, either Twitter or Facebook, or you can login with the e-mail address to your Pinterest account. The company also has a mobile app .
