Last Friday, January 29th, Searcy High School’s Beta Club chapter, a club that’s devoted for encouraging excellence in the school setting, traveled to Hot Springs to the Beta Convention where around 30 other chapters from Arkansas schools gathered in competition. They went to compete in different categories at a state level to see who could go onto national competition during the summer. Searcy High School’s very own student, junior Devin Hoofman, was awarded first place for her on-site acrylic painting she created in an art competition held at the convention. Devin’s painting depicted a beautiful tenor horn complemented with fabulous colors. Devin was not the only Searcy student awarded at convention. Adrianna Walls was awarded second place for her skills in Spanish. She showed her true skills of being educated in a foreign language by taking the test.
Our team of Searcy students was led by Searcy High School teachers, Mrs. White and Mrs. Holman and Mr. Mayes, being the bus driver. The students and teachers stayed over-night in Hot Springs at the Comfort Inn hotel. They competed all day Friday, January 29th, and then awards were handed out on Saturday, January 30th.
Multiple schools competed in an array of competitions ranging in all educational spectrums.
“The art competitions were all three on-site arts with pencil, color pencil, and acrylic painting. Off-site arts included banner, speech, social studies, science, scrapbooking, Spanish, and many others,” said junior Devin Hoofman.
There was also a talent group competition, a singing competition, and other art form competition, even though SHS did not participate in those particular events.
Congratulations to Searcy High School’s Devin Hoofman and Adrianna Walls for their excellence in skill and educational knowledge last weekend. We would like to wish these two girls good luck at national competition in the Summer. Most definitely another achievement for our school to be proud of.
