Searcy (LP) Many students are searching for a positive and exciting environment to hang out at after school. Instead of playing video games or sitting on their phones, they can come to a new event in Searcy called Young Life. Young Life is basically just a community of students and adults junior high level and up who want to hang out and have a good time, while loving each other as much as possible in the process.
In an interview with Harrison Carpenter, one of the leaders at Young Life, he called it “organized chaos,” because although there is a lot going on, it is a very safe and positive environment for everyone. Everyone
is welcomed to join Young Life at any point, with any background. Many young people feel judged and unloved no matter where they are, but at Young Life, they take a new approach and try and spread as much love around as possible.
According to Harrison and Shelby Beauchamp, another Young Life leader, “If a student doesn’t know what to expect at Young Life, we have the five C’s: contact work (spreading the group and the gospel and reaching out to kids), concert (we play well known songs as well as Christian songs if that is what everyone wants to play), camp (every summer we go on a trip- this summer it will be to Colorado), campaign (Our group of adult and teen leaders are always available to share more about the gospel), and club (At the end of every Young Life event, we like to have a short devotional, but only for those who want to participate).”
At Young Life you can expect to have a good time and form a great bond with some really amazing people, while also learning about the gospel if you choose to. It is an extremely loving and accepting environment for all kinds of people; you actually don’t even have to be religion at all to attend. For now, Young Life is meeting on Monday nights at the Zion rock climbing gym.
