Searcy (LP) Halloween is coming in two weeks, on October 31, which marks the last day of the Celtic calendar and Halloween was a day of celebration before winter, which brought the death of life and nature, and the harvest.
Recently, many students are preparing for their costumes and going to dress up for Halloween. When you think about Halloween costumes, you may wonder where the whole general idea of costumes came from. By definition, a costume is really just a set of clothes that comes from a specific era in history or from a particular country. From the very ancient days of early man to the fads and trends that are more familiar to us in our modern era, most costumes that we use to dress up in today have their roots somewhere in the past. Although traditionally many Halloween costumes are monsters, various ghouls, and other frightful beings, still many more costume looks are based on characters and figures from past or present everyday life. Many teenagers like to dress up as a movie character. They often choose characters from Disney movies. Heidi Haddix, a student at Cross Pointe Preparatory said, “ I am going to be a Cheshire cat from the Alice in the wonderland because I think it is a really cute and funny character in the story.” Most of the high students prefer making a costume to buying one. In general, a costume will cost you 30 to 50 dollars. People really don’t want to spend too much money buying a costume which only can be used once a year. Therefore, students try to make the costume by themselves. “ I prepared for my costume for almost two weeks. I bought a pink teen shirt, pink and purple tulle, pink and purple leggings, and pink felt for ears. All these are for my cat costume.” said Heidi. Making a costume is a really fun, but hard work. Everyone who makes their own costumes really enjoy the process. Although Halloween costumes will only be used once a year, it brings a lot of fun to Halloween.
