Falling for the Beta Festival

Searcy (LP) Beta held their annual Fall Festival on Thursday, October 27, in the Searcy High annex. The fall festival is an event that is designed for kids from kindergarten up to sixth grade, and it allows children a chance to participate in a fun, safe halloween event.

The festival is organized by the Beta sponsors, Mrs. White and Mrs. Holman, and members of the Beta club provide the entertainment. These kids volunteer to be a huge asset to the event, and the amount of effort and work that is brought to the table is impeccable. The sponsors require everyone to bring candy, but the members also get points  for this contribution. While bringing candy to a halloween festival is very important, senior, Darbi Owen, believes that, “the best thing we can contribute is our time and effort. It’s important to show these kids a good time, while interacting with them in a positive manner.”

Many  students agree with Darbi’s belief, and went all out to make this fall festival memorable for all who were involved. the students who choose to participate are required to be in a group with three other individuals, wear a costume, and create a game for the children to play when they arrive. The costumes varied.img_7488 One group decided to represent fruits, so the members were dressed as strawberries, grapes, and kiwis. Another group dressed as nurses, while another chose to represent hardcore razorback fans. Courtney Teasley, otherwise known as one of the die-hard pig fans, exclaimed, ” Everyone did a great job dressing up, but the best costume by one of our members has to be the Batman costume.” Courtney wasn’t the only one who was in awe, all of the kids clung to ‘Batman” and demanded pictures with him. He was definitely one of the biggest highlights to the festival in the eyes of the kids, but nothing could compare to the games. Many groups had organized games that involved tossing bean bags, but a few groups decided to take a different route. This alternate  route involved arts and crafts, face painting, and the quick version of “Name that Object.”

With all of the great costumes, games, and the hard work and dedication that these students put forth, this year’s Beta fall festival was a blast. The members are looking forward to an even better one next year.
