Breaking through Social Barriers with the Idea of Feminism

Searcy (LP) Feminism is the act of women breaking the glass ceiling to stand up for their rights. The glass ceiling is a symbol for social barriers women break in voting, social changes, and equality. How is feminism significant? Feminism gives women confidence that they deserve the same rights as men, gives the desire to stand up for equal social treatment, and gives them the power to complete the action of breaking social barriers. You can be a feminist if you are a man or a woman. Anyone can make a change if they try hard enough.

To begin with, women always deserve equal social treatment. Women are often treated negatively, because of their social status. Some people believe that women cannot do certain things and this needs to be changed. On this subject, Natalie Doyle has many opinions. She states, “Women do an equal amount of work. Women don’t get enough credit for the work we do. Just like S.E. Hinton changed her name to a guy’s name as she started writing. Many businesses will hire men before women. I would like to change how women can’t have specific positions in the military. I would change how we don’t get equal pay.” Women can be just as good as men, because by the Constitution, all people are created equal and women should have the same social treatment as men. Even if a woman is the poorest, non-working woman, she is still beautiful. When she believes it, she can do anything and turn herself into the richest person in the world. She will stand up for her rights and this is an example of a feminist.

Next, women need the confidence to know and say that they deserve the same rights as men. Women got the right to vote on August 18, 1920. Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, and Ida B. Wells fought for their voting rights by by making petitions and protesting for several days in front of the White House. They fought very hard to make things better for their children, relatives, and women in the future. They went for long hours without sleep to make important changes. They had to face people making rude comments and even some people hurting them physically. As a result of the ladies breaking social barriers, the Nineteenth Amendment was passed. This made many women grateful to vote, something they haven’t ever done. All women have the power to break social barriers. When a woman feels that she doesn’t have the equal rights in comparison to men, she will make a change. A woman can do more things than men. She can work for herself and have willpower and courage to make a change in this world. Young women can continue to fight for their rights and stop sexism. Everyone should be treated the same way. Women can make a change for the better and do what is right by the Constitution.

Lastly, feminism is the act of women breaking the glass ceiling to stand up for their rights. The glass ceiling is the social barriers women break to make a change in equality, voting, and social status. These barriers need to be broken. Haven Whitney, freshman at SHS, states “Socially, women are expected to handle men’s emotional labor and generally step aside to fulfill a man’s wishes. Politically, the glass ceiling is so rendering, women are often given more work and menial in jobs and seen as ‘uppity’ when they expect equal pay for equal work. I believe a woman’s place isn’t to please other people. Do what you want. Specifically, I’d like to help end social stigma surrounding, but not limited to, women’s shapes and sizes. Women are criticized and judged as people to do and don’t let people tell you it’s not a lady’s place. For a man to be a feminist, he has to actively call out other men who are sexist.” Make a change. Make the future better. Help women gain the same rights as men and help women break through social barriers with feminism.
