How Thanksgiving Brings Family Closer

Searcy (LP) Thanksgiving is this Thursday. It is perfect for bringing family and friends together and to give thanks to God for everything. It is a day of giving thanks for what you are most grateful.

Thanksgiving firsted started with Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians. They shared an autumn harvest feast that is now known as Thanksgiving. The feast lasted for three day, but now we celebrate it for just one day. In 1863, during the civil war Abraham Lincoln declared a national day of Thanksgiving and Praise to God.

There are many different ways how this holiday brings families together. One way is family traditions. Another way is having a big thanksgiving dinner and communicating with each other.

The Wesson’s family tradition is after dinner they sit in the living room and talk about anything.“We go over my grandma’s house. My aunts, uncles, and cousins come over and eat dinner and before we eat we say what we are most thankful.”- Will SHS freshman. He always says that he is thankful for being alive on this day.  He never brings friends over for Thanksgiving.  “I think Thanksgiving is a time to be with your family and not with friends because you see your friends everyday at school and after school. When you hang out with your friends you hardly have time for your family.” “When we talk and bond is how Thanksgiving brings my family together, but everyday of the year we are together so it is not just Thanksgiving.”

The Hughey family tradition is to eat dinner together. “ I love eating dinner with my family on Thanksgiving day.”-Marissa. She never brings friends over for Thanksgiving. “Thanksgiving brings me and my family by after eating the food we talk and watch Thanksgiving specials on TV” ” Cherish this day with your family because it might be your last day with them”

So enjoy Thanksgiving with your family because it is a time to be together, communicate with each other, and have lots of fun with your family. “Gratitude can transforms common days into Thanksgiving, turn routine jobs into joy and change ordinary opportunities into blessings”- William Arthur Ward
