Searcy (LP) Every year Searcy High School’s junior and senior girls team up to play powder puff football in hopes to raise money for charity’s in the community. The teams are separated by class and coached by Lion football players. The junior and senior’s don’t just compete against each other like last year. The girls are going to go head to head with Riverview, Bald Knob, and Harding Academy in hopes to have a better turnout. Before these girls can compete at their best level they must practice hard, work together, learn the rules and strategies of the game of flag football. I sat down with Jacob Barker the head coach of the junior team to get an idea of how he prepares the girls for game time. Jacob stated “This is new to all the girls, so the basic rules are really the main focus.” The girls training is a learning experience and physically demanding. I also sat down with McKinley Jackson to get her opinion on the experience. McKinley said “It’s really fun being on a team with all my friends and I feel good knowing what we are doing is helping others.” The money is raised by admission sells to the powder puff games, last years ticket sells where over one thousand dollars. The girls hope to raise more this year by expanding who they are playing. The teams have faith within there community to show up and support them. Best of luck to the junior and senior Searcy girls on their games and admission sells. What the girls are doing by taking time out of there days to play to the best of their abilities to help raise money for the Searcy community is truly inspiring. May the best team win and may all the girls have fun and remember what they are playing for. Powder puff games start April twenty first at seven o’clock, the teams hope to see you there to support them and their community.
