STUDENT BODY OFFICER ELECTIONS for the 2017-18 school year are coming up soon. We will elect Student Council President, Vice President, Secretary, and Historian in April. Petitions may be picked up from Mrs. Jones on Monday, March 27th (the day we return from Spring Break) and are due by that Friday, April 3rd. This election is only for overall Officers. (Class officers and representatives will be chosen when we return to school in the fall.) 

ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION CAMP: The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) is accepting applications from qualified high school sophomores and juniors interested in attending the SAME/Army Engineering and Construction Camp, June 11-17, 2017 in Vicksburg, MS.

NATIONAL BREAKFAST WEEK: “Our school district will be celebrating National School Breakfast Week all next week, March 6-10, and our cafeteria staff invites you to “Take the School Breakfast Challenge” with them!  For each day that you eat school breakfast in the cafeteria next week, your name will be entered into a BIG prize drawing for an iPad Mini to be given away at your school at the end of the week!  That means, if you eat breakfast at school ONE time next week, your name goes in the drawing once, but if you eat EVERY day, your name will go in the drawing FIVE times, increasing your chances of winning! Also, we will have special small surprises to give away every day to every student, so plan on trying out school breakfast next week!   Breakfast service starts at 7:30 each day.”

 

BASKETBALL TRYOUTS:  Tryouts for the 2017-2018 SHS Sr. Boys’ basketball team for NON-SPRING SPORT ATHLETES will be March 27th-31st at 3:15 in the Annex gym.  Tryouts for all spring sport athletes will be on May 18th-19th at 3:15 in the Main gym.  Any student who wishes to tryout must sign up with Coach White and have a current physical.  For more information see Coach White or Coach Turney.

 

JOSTENS SENIOR ITEMS : will  be delivered Monday, March 13.  Jostens Rep will be in the cafeteria to deliver the senior items ordered during 1st period.  You should have received a notification regarding any balance owing on your items and you must bring that payment with you on that day.  Items will not be delivered to you until all balance owing is paid.  If you have any questions, see Ms. Daves in the East office.  SENIORS WILL BE CALLED TO THE CAFETERIA BY ALL-CALL WHEN WE ARE READY.

 

GOLF TRYOUTS: Tryouts for the 2017 Lion and Lady Lion golf teams will be May 15th-17th at 3:30 at Searcy Country Club.  Students must have a current physical to tryout.  Students can sign up and pick up an information sheet in Coach Turney’s room (117).  There will be a MANDATORY meeting for all students trying out on Wednesday, May 10th at 3:15 in Coach Turney’s room.  You MUST sign up, have a physical, return the information sheet, and attend the meeting in order to tryout.

 

NHS FOOD DRIVE: is next week – March 6-10

All donations will go to the SHS student Council Food Pantry.

Each grade has been assigned a different food item to bring. Check with your teachers to find out what your items are.

This is a competition between the grades so help your grade win by bringing food and helping SHS students. 

 

CHEER AND LION STEPPER TRYOUTS: Cheer and Lionstepper Tryouts will be held April 3rd through the 7th.

A mandatory meeting will be held for all interested girls and one parent Tuesday, March 14th at   5:30 pm  in the Main Gym. All candidates must sign the list in the East or West Office. Contact Ms. Cramblett or Ms. Simpson if you have any questions.

 

VOLLEYBALL TRYOUTS: Volleyball tryouts for girls entering grades 10-12 will be on March 13th and 14th at the annex gym from 3:30-5:00.  Informational packets will be available for pick up in the East office starting February 27th.

 

SHS PROM CLOSET–Searcy High School Prom Closet will hold its shopping days on  Tuesday, March 7th, Thursday, March 9th, and Tuesday, March 28th.  SHS students who are attending the SHS Prom and would like to take advantage of the free service are invited to visit the Prom Closet from 3:15-5:00 P.M. on the third floor of the SHS PAC. Inventory consists of prom items for females such as dresses, shoes, purses and jewelry, and we also have a small inventory of men’s suits and ties.  Students may also sign up at this time for hair and makeup services on the day of the prom. CLINICAL APPLICATIONS: The application for Clinical Internship is now available in the Guidance Center.  11th grade students must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA to apply.  Deadline to return application materials to the Guidance Center is March 30.

HONOR GRADUATES: All Searcy High School honor graduates and their parents should have received an email with information regarding the 2017 Honor Graduate video. Pictures are due by Tuesday, March 14, 2017 to Mrs. Betsy Bailey. You may email Mrs. Bailey at bbailey@searcyschools.org or leave the photos in the EAST office at Searcy High School.

SCHOLARSHIPS:

ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP: The Arkansas Society of Professional Engineers, Central Chapter is now accepting applications for their annual scholarship.  They award two $1000 scholarships each year to graduating seniors from Central Arkansas that intend to earn a degree in engineering from an accredited university.  Other qualifications are as stated on the application.  Interested students can pick up an application in the Guidance Center.

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS:

BETA CLUB: Beta Club will meet Wednesday, March 15th, at 7:45am in the cafeteria. 

FISHING CLUB: Fishing Club members who plan to enter tournaments will meet next Thursday, March 16, at 7:00pm in room 320 (Mrs. Jones’s room). Competitive club members, their parents, and boat captains should plan to attend.
