Volleyball team opens season against Batesville

The Searcy Lady Lions volleyball team faced the Batesville Pioneers on Tuesday, Aug. 23 for the first match of the 2011-12 season.  The Pioneers’ experience advantage was evident, as they took every match.  Despite the defeat, however, the Lady Lions remain confident that this season will turn out different than the previous two.

“I know we haven’t won any the past two years,” says senior Anne-Claire Smith, “but we did great during volleyball camp, and I really think in our game against Batesville, we showed that we can keep up with a team…I think we can can come out real strong.”

With this being only the third year of existence for Searcy volleyball, the team has seen tremendous improvement over the years, and they hope to build off of a strong group of experienced players and talented young players as well. They play most games on Tuesdays and Thursdays this year, and they expect to have large turnouts for their games.
