Searcy’s Local Prom Closet

Searcy, Ark., (LP) — With it being only been three months away from prom, Searcy High School has came up with a great program called Prom Closet. Betsy Bailey and Sara Dacus have been running this prom closet for four years counting this year. Sara states, “We believe prom is a special rite of passage and a special night of celebration. We want every student possible to be able to experience it. By providing dresses and cosmetic services we are removing obstacles for some students who might otherwise decide not to attend.” Prom is a night to have fun and feel very good about yourself. It’s all about making memories and having a good time. The prom closet program has got around 20 to 30 students each year. There are around 100 dresses in this program.

During this time of the year it’s always a stressful time for some parents to pay for prom dresses, suits, hair, makeup, etc. But this closet helps out and has all of these things free at your local Searcy High School. These last four years have been very successful for Searcy High’s Prom Closet and the wardrobe has only grown bigger. This time of year you have boys running around trying to think of a way to ask that special someone and girls wondering who will come along to ask to take them on that special night. Lauren Smith states, “Prom is about having fun and it will be nice to not have to worry about all the costs that come with it. It’s special to me that my school does such a good job providing for the people that are in need.” Searcy High School also takes donations for this program, including dresses, suits, shoes, and etc. Lauren stated, “I think making donations is something that keeps this program going, donating a dress that’s just sitting in the back of your closet could be the dress that makes a night for a girl unforgettable.”

Prom is special for everyone including the parents that put just as much hard work into prom as everybody else does. Searcy High Schools junior class also runs a fundraiser each year to raise money to make the seniors last from the best prom. Sending a special thanks to Sara Dacus and Betsy Bailey for putting the time and effort into such a great cause. Prom should be special for everybody including the people that can’t get a prom dress or prom suit and have the special treatment that everyone deserves on their special day.
