Searcy High School Lady Lionsteppers Hosts a Zumba Program

Lionsteppers and Zumba Participants.

Searcy, Ark., (LP)— Zumba is an exercise fitness program created by Colombian dancer and cyclist/choreographer Alberto “Beto” “Power Pedal” Perez during the 1990s. It’s becoming a very popular way to get into shape. The program is sponsored in many gyms and schools. Searcy High School Lady Lionsteppers came up with a new program where the girls come up with zumba dances and teach them. This program is a great opportunity to have fun and to get into shape while meeting new people. Teachers, students, moms, community members and administration are welcome to attend. It is sponsored by Coach Amanda Simpson who created the program.

Mrs. Simpson started this program “as a way to raise money.” “Summer dance camp can be really expensive. I would like to raise enough to pay the whole amount for each girl,” stated Mrs. Simpson. The way the program works is the Lionsteppers come up with eight fun, easy and repetitive dance workouts. With a small fee of $5 you will have an hour long Zumba session in a comfortable surrounding. You get a good, fun workout in while mingling with your peers and meeting new people. This is a women only program so that everyone is comfortable.

The Lionsteppers have worked long and hard putting together the dance workouts. “The team is always trying to find new and exciting ways to get the community involved and to raise money,” quoted Lionstepper Bonnie Gavin. Bonnie shared that the class is easy but you will “definitely be sore the next day.” Many participants have talked to Mrs. Simpson and the Lionsteppers about how much fun they had and how good of a workout it was. The girls make up workout dances that all ages can do. “I learned that you can have fun with all ages. Dancing is a good way to come together and have fun for a good cause,” said Bonnie.

Zumba doesn’t have to be a challenge or a hassle. Searcy High School Lionsteppers are very prideful and hard working towards anything they do. They always find new and creative ways to get involved in the community with the help of their Coach. Mrs. Simpson is proud of her team and all of their accomplishments. If you have any questions, contact the coach at asimpson@searcyschools.org. Come join the Lady Lionsteppers and have fun with the dance workouts while meeting new people for only $5!
