POWDERPUFF FOOTBALL PLAYERS: Powderpuff football players need to pay their player fee to Mrs. Carpenter by Monday, March 12. All players will need to sign the record of money received so you must pay in person. Mrs. Carpenter will get shirt sizes when you pay.

 

CONGRATULATIONS to Bethany Ellis for gaining Microsoft Master certification this week. Bethany will also represent Arkansas at the National Microsoft Office Specialist competition in Atlanta June 13-15 competing in Microsoft Word 2016. 

 

GOLF TRYOUTS: Tryouts for the 2018 SHS Lion and Lady Lion golf teams will be May 14th-15th at Searcy Country Club.  Any student wishing to tryout MUST sign up in Coach Turney’s room (117), have a physical, and return the information sheet.  There will be a MANDATORY meeting in Coach Turney’s room on May 10th at 3:15 for all students wishing to tryout.  Free physicals at school are scheduled for April 6th.  Physical forms and information sheets can be picked up in Coach Turney’s room.


THE RESCUE RUN 5K: the Youth Advisory Council wants all of you to suit up for The Rescue Run 5k on Saturday, March 17th! This superhero-themed walk and run is to benefit local nonprofits that are working to fight bullying and depression among kids and youth. You can register to get your t-shirt and other race day materials or find more information at www.searcyrescuerun.com.

 

SENIORS:  Jostens orders will be delivered on March 13 during 1st period.  The Jostens Representative will be in the cafeteria 1st period to deliver the previously ordered graduation items.  If you are unable to pick up your items at this delivery, they will be in the East office with Ms. Daves.  YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PICK UP ANY ITEMS UNLESS PAID IN FULL.  If you have not paid in full you may bring the balance due on this delivery date. If there are any questions to please call 1-800-JOSTENS.

 

 

CIVICS EXAM:  The “Civics Exam Study Guide”  is being handed out to all 11th grade students by their 11th grade English teachers.  Any 11th grade students who do not receive a study guide due to absence, etc., should  check with their English teacher to get a copy.  The test will be administered on March 27 to all 11th grade students and all 9-10 graders who took Civics this school year.  

 

CONGRATULATIONS to the following Choirs for earning the ArkCDA Academic Achievement Recognition.

Excellence in Academic Achievement  (3.00-3.24):    SHS 9/10 Men    3.19

Distinguished Academic Achievment (3.25- and higher):    SHS 9 Women     3.25   SHS 10 Women   3.48

SHS Concert Choir   3.44

Additionally, 13 choir singers earned certificates of excellence, while 69 singers earned distinguished academic achievement.  Well done choirs!

Additionally all five choirs received Division I Superior Ratings in the Sight-Reading Assessment.

All five choirs are now headed to State Festival on April 13th. 

Congratulations to these students for their hard work as choral musicians but also as hosts for this event.

 

BOYS BASKETBALL TRYOUTS : Please announce that High School Basketball Tryouts for the boys who do not play a spring sport will be March 13th and March 15th after school in the high school gym. You must have a current physical to tryout. 

 

CHESS TEAM: The SHS Chess team finished 8th on tie-breakers at the State Tournament this past Saturday.  Our top player was Lawson Neal who finish 14th overall.  Other members who competed were Sophia Nguyen, Greg Supratman, Tyler Ellis and Kaylee Murray.   This was the first state competition for these students.

 

PROM CLOSET: The first SHS Prom Closet shopping day will be held on the 3rd floor of the SHS PAC on Wednesday, February 21 from 3:30-5 P.M. Any student attending the SHS prom is welcome to check out the formalwear inventory. A second shopping day will be held Wednesday, March 14.

 

 

LIONSTEPPERS DANCE FITNESS CLASS:  The Lionsteppers will be hosting a dance fitness class for four weeks on Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m. in the SHS annex  2/20-3/13. The cost is $5 per class; attend one or all. No registration is needed. High school students, teachers and staff from all campuses and families are all welcome to come (ladies only).  This is meant to be fun so no previous dance experience, skill or rhythm is required. The proceeds will help us pay for summer camp and possible technique clinics. Please email asimpson@searcyschools.org for any questions.

 

CLINICAL INTERNSHIP11th grade students interested in applying for Clinical Internship their senior year can pick up applications in the Guidance Center.  Completed applications are due in the Guidance Center by March 16.  

 

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS: 

STUDENT COUNCIL: All members should bring $15 to Mrs. Jones before Spring Break for registration for The Elliott Foundation’s The Stride to Prevent Suicide. If any other students or teachers want to participate, feel free to sign up with Mrs. Jones & Student Council for $15.
