New changes to SHS period schedule

SHS implements new eighth period.

SEARCY, Ar. (LP) — Here recently at Searcy High School,  the school has had many changes, and so far the students are loving it. Freshman Ivan Choate said, “The fact that they are beginning to make that change in most of the schools in the district is a great idea, the eighth period is a great idea for the high school.” It would seem that the positivity increased in some classrooms and the hallways. The sense of a change to the 8th period began to brew back in the end of last school year. Sooner or later the change came, and also lots more of changes began to happen around campus. The change to the 8th period has been saw as a success but SHS isn’t the only school in the district with with eight periods. Alf Junior High was the first in the district to have the add on of the 8th period, Searcy High School had it in the works but it came sooner than we had expected. From the students to the facility at the school, we are all adjusting to it very well, even the principal & assistant principal are loving the new change for the school.

The new eighth period came with many attributes to the school for itself. “The choice of the eighth periods was a combination of myself and the district administration,” says Gene Hodges principal at SHS. The decision was a great idea for the district and school; an all around good choice Assistant Principal Clay MCcammon says, It’s given students to be able to be in more activities to catch and still be able to meet core requirements.” The fact for a student to be able to do more activities and be able to do enough classes is a great look for the high school. Even though the eighth period is helping out many people and the school itself, it is affecting some students.

The freshmen that came up from the junior high were already used to the eighth period, but the upperclassmen are adjusting to the change. Although it affects the upperclassmen says Junior Jered Sandfur, “It doesn’t affect the freshmen but, the upperclassmen are very affected by it.” So far they are loving the eighth period and getting used to it very quickly. Jered also stated, “The eight period makes the day go by much faster an seems like the work is a lot easier.” The work the staff is putting out is still the same, it is just the time they have to do it seems like it goes by faster and it’s easier.
