SEARCY, Ar. (LP) – After doing a short study on niche.com, Lion Press discovered that Searcy School District has a B plus ranking in safety. Taking this into consideration Lion Press decided to conduct their own study to see how some of the faculty and student body feel about the safety of our school.
The results of the new security system has improved greatly.
If people want to enter into our school, They have to push a buzzer to do so.
The Principal of Searcy High School, Mr. Gene Hodges stated, “We have one school shooting drill once a year.” He also stated, “They have drills at the Ahlf Junior High School more often.” Mr. Gene Hodges rates our security system high eight or nine . “Not only do you have to be buzzed in once but twice and to get through the second door you have to go into the office.” Mr. Gene Hodges also states, “That most school shooters are students so therefore the security system would rate a zero because the student would already be in the building.” Therefore we would be more or less trapped, In Mr. Gene Hodges opinion. Mr. Gene Hodges is pushing for clear backpacks in our schools.
Maria Suarze rates the security system a seven because she feels safe inside but points out that if she were outside and someone was chasing her it would be hard for her to get in to the building. Maria Suarze also added that she thinks placing a metal detector at the entrances of all outside doors would be a great help because students are always trying to bring things in that they should not.
So it seems that both Mr. Gene Hodges and Maria Suarze are pretty much saying the same thing about our new security system.
