SEARCY, Ar.(LP)– Ninth grade cheerleaders are preparing to kick off this year with a bang!
These girls are practicing hard everyday so that they are prepared for each game that they attend.
They are responsible for keeping the crowd fired up during all aspects of the game and under all situations. Whether our team is winning or losing, the cheerleaders are there to keep the crowd and the team fired up. Mary Grace Parsley, a 9th grade cheerleader from Searcy High School stated, “ I’m in high school now, which means new routines, new uniforms, new people, and more opportunities. I love cheerleading and supporting my school!” Cheerleading are more than just girls jumping around waving their arms and yelling. We have learned that they have a lot of responsibilities. Not only to their teammates but to their school. Mary Grace also stated “I like to think my failures are my lessons, so if my teammates fails, it’s my job to be a leader and help them.¨ Cheerleaders are leaders and positive role models. They have to keep a 3.0 grade point average in order to become a cheerleader, just like any other sport. Cheerleading is a very competitive sport, It takes lot of strength, coordination, and acrobatics skills. Cheerleaders have to remember all of their routines, lift each other off the ground, learn new dance moves, and, keep up their grades to participate in the sport. Mary Grace Parsley talked with us about what made her start cheerleading. She stated “I was a little girl just dancing with the older girls, and fell in love with it and wanted to become a cheerleader. I have absolutely loved it ever since then. I absolutely love dancing and cheering, it’s and my blood.” Cheerleaders also have to put forth effort to cheer on our teams. So next time you go to a basketball or football game, let’s support the players and the cheerleaders.
