SHS is all about bus safety!

Searcy School’s Buses Picking up Kids

Searcy, Ar. (LP) – While riding the bus, students are under the supervision of the bus driver and cameras. Students must obey the bus driver at all times. Discipline problems will be handled by the Searcy School’s Principals. The Principal or Transportation Director has the authority to temporarily suspend a student from riding the bus. Denise Twisdale states, “That they have bus safety drills twice a year.” Denise Twisdale goes on to say, “Everyone must stop on all sides of the bus when the bus is loading or unloading. I would like to add more outside cameras to monitor wrong doers that are breaking the law by passing the buses when stopped and red lights flashing.”

Eric Snowden states, “I think that there should be another person on the bus just incase a fight breaks out and the bus is moving because the bus driver can’t stop the bus on the highway or road, for safety reasons.” Eric Snowden thinks it would be unsafe if the bus driver had to leave his seat to go to the back of the bus and leave the front of the bus unattended. Eric Stoughton said, “Being a bus driver, you can’t watch the road and the students on the bus at the same time.”

SHS Safety Reward

Ms.Wendy Taylor tells us she was a aide on a bus for two years. Ms. Wendy Taylor says, “There are a lot of distractions on the bus, such as students talking, arguing, yelling, crying and asking the bus driver a million and one questions.” It helps for another adult to be present to keep the noise level down and help with redirecting the students from disturbing the bus driver and should anything happen on the bus, like a fight or strong argument, The aide could respond faster and take control of the situation while the bus driver finds a safe place to pullover and stop. Although driving a bus can look very easy, dealing with kids on the bus can cause chaos and complications for the bus driver.
