Clothes that define you

SHS Daily Dress Code

SEARCY, Ar. (LP) — Feeling left out is maybe the worst feeling you can imagine being a student at school. Students in this generation seem to be a little more bold with how they say things or come about things. Especially when it comes to clothing. Schools all over the world have different views and opinions on should students all over wear uniforms? According to some of the SHS students they believe school uniforms should be pushed and others believe students should be able to express themselves. Most students don’t understand that some students aren’t as lucky as others and can’t afford name brand clothing or items.

Senior Vera Lumpkin said, “ I think bullying is a huge problem based on clothing. All these students who can afford nice clothing judge and make fun of students because it’s not name brand or cute. It’s sad that  I witness that every day at school.” Schools all over the world go through the decision on having uniforms or not having them. Student Tristan Setzer said, “If people didn’t dress their own way, then there wouldn’t be any way to express themselves silently.” Which makes a good argument to the school of why they believe making school uniforms is a no go. As the school years go on students tend to forget what a dress code is and some students don’t agree with half of what is under the rules as it pertains to clothing. Vera Lumpkin said, “No we should not be able to wear clothes to express ourselves because girls will be coming to school barely clothed showing stomach. If other people who can’t afford good clothing might feel insecure or lame.”

SHS Daily Routine

Females in general have a harder time with clothing and feeling like they aren’t enough just because that’s how females work and having uniforms may change how girls judge each other so hard. One of the SHS staff Mrs. Joyner said, “Searcy Schools haven’t made this a rule because it must not a issues.” On the other hand some teachers don’t see the issue with clothing because they don’t really know how these students feel. Tristan Setzer said, “I feel like most schools not just searcy have a general understanding that people in the school want to make themselves appear and feel different than everyone else.” Making each student happy and feeling safe in a school environment is very difficult and over whelming. Vera Lumpkin says, “Searcy hasn’t made this a rule because they honestly don’t care. Searcy does not do enough about bullying. We wait until there is a suicide to actually talk about it or get saf about it when we could’ve stopped that, SHS needs to have more stricter rules on bullying.” Even though SHS doesn’t wear uniforms the students believe there should be actions taken on this  subject and more thought on ways to change the amount of bullying based off clothing.
