SEARCY, AR. (LP) — The bus shop of the Searcy School District is being underestimated by some people in the school system. The bus shop is more important than even they know themselves or the students themselves. The school district itself is very reliant of the bus shop and its mechanics that they have. The district did have three mechanics, but sadly two of them quit and they only have one mechanic left. with only one mechanic left the question for Searcy School District is: How can we make this work with only one bus mechanic?
Searcy Lion Press managed to get an interview with the only mechanic Searcy has left at the school bus shop. Carl Neal the only mechanic at the school bus shop. Carl is just a rookie who used to work at Wal-Mart as a semi-truck mechanic and is only started working at the bus shop last year gave some insight to the story. He said, “Being a mechanic in the bus shop of the Searcy School is very important because your not just putting the driver at risk, your putting the students at risk too.” With only being a rookie Carl has a lot of knowledge on diesel engines from working at Wal-Mart. Also, with the job Carl has a favorite part of the job and feels that it just can’t get any better than working for the Searcy School District. “My favorite part of working on buses is the challenges of it and achieving it and overcoming things that your just not used to doing to get better at doing it.”
A school bus driver Ms. Kathy Gude of bus number 30 was at the bus shop when Lion Press walked in to get the interview with Carl Neal the mechanic of the Searcy Schools bus shop. Ms. Kathy has been a bus driver for 13 years but took a couple years off for a break, if she had no taken that break then she been working here for 15 years and would desperately be in need of a break. Ms. Kathy gave some insight to the topic also. She said, “I believe the bus mechanic Carl Neal is doing a fantastic and satisfying job at being our school bus mechanic.” Ms. Kathy has a lot of respect for the bus mechanic to be able to have her bus repaired if it is needed or has to be done pronto.
