Freshmen Driving

SEARCY, Ar. (LP) — Not only has school been in session for a handful of weeks but we are seeing a few things that we have not seen before in the years before. As usual, you have a handful of sophomores driving to school, sports events and are able to drive freely without any restrictions from the government. Most of your junior class is legally and legible to drive but there are a few that haven’t got to that stage yet.  And of course, your senior class is able to drive, if they’ve passed all of that requirements to enable them to be driving legally. One of the big factors that were seeing is there are very few freshmen driving, one or two at most. These underclassmen are ranging from 14 – 15 years of age which is a very young age for someone to be driving legally on the roads. Of course most people know how to drive a vehicle but not legally allowed to, but in other words they take advantage of this knowledge and drive illegally. The fact of a fourteen year old being able to drive bothers but doesn’t some people. Although from them to be able to drive, they have to pass a certain amount of requirements through the school, parents, and the government.

  • Submit your current AR learner’s permit.
  • Provide additional proof of identity and legal presence in the U.S. (birth certificate, valid U.S. passport, Naturalization Certificate).
  • Provide your Social Security number, or an affidavit confirming that you do not have a SSN.
  • Pay the $40 Class D intermediate driver’s license fee.

Not only is there many requirements, there are many restrictions. To begin with, you must drive with an adult in the vehicle. You are NOT, allowed to drive between the times of 11 P.M. – 4 A.M. Exceptions are when accompanied by an adult at least 21 years old, or when driving to or from work, school, church, due to an emergency. Although all the passengers must wear a seat belt at all times. You may never drive while using a cell phone or wireless communication device, unless it is for emergency purposes. You can carry 1 passenger that is a minor unrelated to you; but otherwise, you must also have a licensed adult at least 21 years old in the vehicle.  Although, it may be til some of their senior year till they can drive legally. Some wll be allowed to be driving before that, but the majority wont be till later in their highschool career.
