Students driving stick shifts..

Different amounts of gear patterns.

Searcy, AR (LP) — Come to realize here at Searcy High School that driving a vehicle with a manual transmission or formerly known as a “stick shift” isn’t something that is common. Driving a stick shift is something that takes time to learn and adapt to while driving it. It is such a big difference than driving a automatic; the newer vehicles with the newer technology makes it such a bigger difference with driving. There are various types of stick shifts; trucks, cars, and very few SUVs. The most of people that know how to drive a stickshift was taught back when that’s all the types of vehicles were made. Although, there are different types of vehicles with a manual transmission there are some with more gears. There are two types of manual transmissions the column, and the normal base shifter. Various types of companies such as, Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, Jeep and more made these and are still making them surprisingly. In my opinion, stick shifts will be discontinued due to the newer technology in vehicles. Also, the lack of courage, being scared or nervous is stopping many kids today from learn how to drive a manual is what will contribute to the discontinued  making of manual transmission vehicles.

Type of shifter.

Student, Jerred Sandefur stated, “The fact that kids are not willing to learn how to drive a manual is hurting this country in many ways.” Big companies do and will need people that can drive a truck with a manual transmission, due to bringing products to the stores and warehouses. “Come to realize, only about 4 or so people drive manuals but that’s good,” stated Student Parker Staggs. It’s really good that some students drive one; myself drive one everyday and it’s the greatest thing ever. It is much more entertaining that just letting the car do everything for you rather than having more control of the car. Some cars have more gears to go through or “shift through.” Cj Yocham said, “It puts the fun in driving one rather than just sitting there, you are more focused on the road and can’t text and drive.” Another big thing about driving a standard is they come much more cheaper when buying one. There’s at least a ten thousand dollar difference on some vehicles just because not many people drive them nor buy them in todays world.

All these students are worried about getting a vehicle at some point, and having to learn. We have these students that drives manuals and it’s a whole different situation for those who have to drive one. It is a very good thing to know how to drive one and even better to drive it as a daily car.
