Searcy, Ar. (LP) – Searcy High School band plays an important part in our school sporting events as well as numerous events in our local community. The SHS Band is a direct reflection of our school spirit. Searcy High School band has been here for more than a half a century and been pumping up our crowds for our events and at prep rallies.
Lion Press interviewed two students from the Searcy High School Band. Wyatt Mote was asked, How long have you been in the High School Band and why did you choose do be in band? “Five years, because I thought music was always fascinating and it was good way to get a first-hand experience.” What instrument do you play and why did you choose that instrument? “The clarinet. My sister had a big influence in that. She played the clarinet for six years and I thought it was a really neat instrument.” How often do you practice and for how long? “I practice three times a week but it increases as we get closer to contests. I practice for about thirty minutes.”
Preston Fitts who is a senior also plays in the Searcy Lion High School Band he has been in the band since the sixth grade he said, “Because of my sister Katie Fitts and I always been inspired to play music and I grew up watching her play kinda expired to be in band, trumpet in the reason why I like playing it is because I feel like we’re more involved then other entrance not to say other instruments aren’t involved it’s just trumpet are so well-known.”
