Searcy, AR (LP) – Prom and prom closet are two events everyone at Searcy High School looks forward to. Prom is one of the greatest things you learn about as you grow up. The thought of dancing, games, and the prom king and queen being crown. Lots of planning is put into prom. Mrs. Farhatt and Ms. Nielsen take suggestions for the prom theme. This year’s theme is “The Greatest Showman” inspired by the movie “The Greatest Showman.” The prom planning moves forward as Mrs. Farhatt and Ms. Nielsen head to theatrical backdrop companies and look for a backdrop to go with the theme. Parents of juniors at Searcy High School that volunteer for prom are put in charge of the games, prizes, and food at the prom. The prizes at the prom are said to range from computers, jewelry, gift cards, and a kayak. According to Mrs. Holeyfield, “To be a leader of the committee you just volunteer for what would like to be in charge of.” Last it is deciding who will be prom king and queen. The students in Searcy High School put down votes on a piece of paper. The person with the most votes for king or queen become king or queen. The prom king and queen at Searcy High School are not crown at the prom, they are usually crown at a prom assembly which the whole school attends.
