SEARCY, Ar. (LP) — The year of 2019, we are only have a half of a year to start finding a Presidential candidate to put our eyes on. Out of all the candidates, we will choose one person to take the office of President but we have to choose wisely or we will be disappointed and dissatisfied. For this election, we have 19 Democratic candidates who are very anxious to take the office of President in the year of 2020. This is a record setting number of candidates on the democratic ticket.
“There are 19! I think a lot of people saw that President Donald Trump won with so few qualifications so more people than normal feel that they’re qualified now. I think he’s really lowered the bar.” Mrs. Amanda Simpson, American History Teacher, Lionstepper Coach, and an Arkansas Council for Social Studies Board Member says. Which is true, there were only two democratic candidates who ran for President in the 2016 presidential election (Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders) also, there were 17 republican candidates including President Trump.
The early candidates are on the game fast and smart, trying to get people rooting for them months before the race. They all have flaws but nobody’s perfect and that is something we as Americans will have to realize and deal with. “Beto is charismatic but I don’t think he’s ready. Mayor Pete is brilliant but he’s so young; I really hope he gets a cabinet position. Joe Biden has the best chance of beating Trump and that’s what is most important in this election. So that’s who I’ll vote for in the primary,” said Mrs. Simpson. Americans have a huge problem with sexism and a lot of people are against women running for president. “Elizabeth Warren has the most well thought out policies but America is sexiest so there’s that. I think Kamala Harris would be the best president out of all of them but again, sexism.” Says Mrs. Simpson.
Many Americans are looking for the best person to do the job as president for 4 years but we have to start looking for the best choice instead of going with our party’s (such as Democrat and Republican) but, there is a party that is always overlooked, the independent party. For instance, Mr. Hester, the art teacher of Searcy High School is a registered independent. “At this moment as a registered independent, I am not seeing anyone running for the Democratic nominee that I would want to be President.” Independents are not bias people, they choose the people who they feel like are the best fit for President.
The year of 2020 will be another election and a new beginning and we should be ready to vote and be ready to keep our eyes open for the prize.
