Sr. High Searcy Lions 2-0!

Searcy Lions Running out to play first game.

SEARCY, AR. (LP) — Last Friday on Sept. the 6th, the Searcy Lions went up against the Sheridan Yellow Jackets for a massive blowout win of 40-7. Just a week before that, Searcy took home their first win against the Morrilton Devil Dogs with a close call score of 44-42.

With just two games of progress, the Searcy Lions seems like a massive force to be reckoned with this year. They have shown up these last two games as a team that isn’t here to play any other game, but the game of football. Coach Kelley’s one who believes the same about his team. “This year’s team is a lot of fun,” says Kelley. “I know that our guys gained confidence that they can compete and beat a really good football team.” When asked about how strict their practice routines will go for now on, he stated, “We have to continue to get better throughout the season to get where we know we can be. We still have a long way to go to reach our potential, and I think the team realizes that as well.”

Player Demaceo Whittier also had insight on his and his teammates game play similar to Coach Kelley’s. “I expected to win,” says Whittier, “but there are some things we need to work on to get to the level we need to be.”

When asked who he thinks the best player on the team is, he refused to put a name on it out of respect for his fellow comrades. “We work as a team to make everyone great”, proclaimed by Whittier. As a senior of Searcy High School, a part of the Class of 2020, Whittier says he plans to play in college and then the NFL. “If I get the privilege of going to the NFL, I will.”

Last Year was a great year for the Searcy Lions Sr. High football team. With a record of 9 wins, 3 losses and 0 tied games, the Sr. High Searcy Lions went on to play in the state tournament. Although they were put out by West Memphis, it’s clear the Lions took that loss as one to grow on for a new fresh start for this year. So far their mindset has worked and can possibly be the key to leading them back to the state tournament for another chance at the gold prize.

Friday Sept. the 13th is the Sr. High Lions next football game. This time their up against Batesville. Do you think they’ll pull off their third win in a row?
