Searcy, AR. (LP) — Halloween is finally here and people are celebrating.  People are going out to trick-or-treat or just staying home this year.  Some will be giving out candy to everyone who comes to there door.  Searcy is celebrating Halloween with the annual Trick-or-Treat on the square.  Many businesses and organizations are going to be celebrating by passing out candy.  One of the reasons for doing this event is to make sure kids have a safe and fun Halloween.  It’s free for anyone to come down and participate. They are expecting around 3,500 kids to be there tonight.  But handing out candy isn’t going to be the only thing happening tonight.

Many events are planned for Trick-or-Treat on the square.  The main event, of course, is the trick-or-treating, but a few others include costume contests, the “monster house” at the rialto, and others.  The whole event runs from 5-7pm; some of them taking place at different times.  Teresa Gogus was there that night handing out candy.  “It makes me happy seeing kids be able to go out and have fun,” said Teresa.  She was handing out KitKats and Butterfingers, both of which are her favorite.  She does have two kids but they have already graduated so they don’t trick-or-treat anymore. This is her second year doing this.  Teresa said she, “really enjoyed it last year so I decided to do it again.”

Brenden Tinsley, a 12th grade senior, went to Trick-or-Treat on the square.  He didn’t dress up but he went to get some candy.  Brenden said that he hasn’t trick-or-treated in a few years but he “saw about it on instagram and decided to go to get some free stuff.”  Brendens favorite candy is actually PayDay but he wasn’t able to get any last night.  He got a lot of KitKats and Nerds which aren’t really his favorites.  Brenden went right before he had to go to work and he said, “it was fun and I’m kinda glad I went.”

The event was a success with lots of kids being there and having fun.  The square was full and there seemed to be a few hundred kids.  Another year of Halloween is gone and over.  It’s time for November and the next big holiday, which is Thanksgiving.  Many people will be looking forward to get out of school and eating over the break.
