Searcy, Ar. (LP) – The Searcy High School football team has been on a roll this year. Doing better than previous years, they have won most of their games this year. Searcy has went 9-1 overall, and 6-1 in conference. The only game they have lost was against the Jonesboro Hurricanes. Because of the loss to Jonesboro, many people thought that Searcy lost the divisional championship. That wasn’t the case as Jonesboro lost the next week, making Searcy the divisional champs. Many people are excited that Searcy are divisional champions, but the team hasn’t won the state championship just yet.
November 15th, is the 1st round for the Centennial Bank State Football Playoffs for the 6A class. Searcy has a bye for the first round and they will play at home on November 22nd. The team will either go against the Pine Bluff Zebras or the Sheridan Yellowjackets. Both of whom we have beat. If Searcy wins the game on November 22nd, the team will move on to the 3rd round on November 29th. The three teams we have a probability of facing in the 3rd round are the Greenwood Bulldogs, Marion Patriots, and Siloam Springs Panthers. If Searcy wins that game, we will move on to the state championship. Searcy has been to the playoffs in the past few fears but have lost to teams including Greenwood and Pine Bluff. This year seems to be different as Searcy beat Pine Bluff a few weeks ago. Greenwood might be a problem for this years team. “I’m most worried about Greenwood, especially after last year. They’re just a good team,” said Junior player Andrew Jameson. Searcy lost to Greenwood in the playoffs last year 35-0. Both teams are 9-1 this year so it should be interesting to see who wins that round. “We’re just going to have to play good and try our best,” said Andrew.
The team is preparing even harder for the playoffs. They have to prepare for possible teams they have to face like Greenwood, and Jonesboro. More drills and more time is being used to make sure the team is ready for the challenge ahead. It might be colder but it isn’t stopping them from practicing. Landon Harris had a few things to say about practice. “It’s getting tougher but I think it will be worth it at the end.” Some players are ready for the season to end so they can take a break. Andrew said, “I’m finally going to be able to get a Friday off.”
