Searcy, AR (LP) — Fall can be a wonderful time of year. While it can quickly very chilly as part of the transition to winter, there are still a lot of things to like about it. Probably the most important event of the autumn season(besides Black Friday, of course) is the holiday of Thanksgiving. Of course, not everyone agrees on what the best and worst parts of Thanksgiving are. But do the students of Searcy High School agree or disagree on this topic?
Well, it seems that, among the SHS students, there is a nearly unanimous opinion in favor of Thanksgiving. When a poll was taken of a randomly picked group of students, 28.6% responded with an ecstatic “Absolutely!”, 64.3% responded with a somewhat calmer “Yes”, and only 7.1% responded with an unsure “Maybe”. “I love spending time with family and I love the food!” exclaimed senior Sarah Levan. Fellow senior Myah Summerland had a similar opinion. “It is my absolute favorite holiday! I love food and family!” she said. Of course, almost all the students that were polled noted that their favorite thing about the holiday was the food. Food was the only thing that freshman Clarissa Clark had to say about the matter. Interestingly enough, quite a few of them also responded that their least favorite thing about the good Turkey Day is something to do with their family/relatives. “Having awkward conversations with relatives I haven’t seen in years.” was the answer that senior Tristan Seibert gave. And certainly, that is a feeling that many people can sympathize with.
But, of course, the centerpiece of any Thanksgiving feast is the turkey. Not everyone agrees that the holiday’s signature bird is the best part of the meal, however. Dessert is often a notable crowd-pleaser, but not even that is something that can be agreed on by everyone. That isn’t even getting into the fact that different families serve different dishes, and a common trait of any good feast is the coveted special recipe of either the family as a whole or a specific individual in the family. But how could anyone possibly decide on which food dish is superior to all others? Especially when there is such a wide variety to choose from! But then, teenagers are known for their decisiveness, and that fact certainly shows in this situation. As part of the previously mentioned poll, students were asked to pick from an extensive list of both classic and more trendy Thanksgiving foods the one that they considered to be their absolute favorite. And the results certainly aren’t one-sided. And the winner is…
…a two-way tie between turkey and ham?!
Well, that was certainly surprising. It seems that people really do prefer Thanksgiving’s trademark dish, as well as the food that’s commonly used as its substitute.
Despite a rather unforeseen result in the matter of favorite Turkey Day foods, the true focus of the holiday was never the food. No matter what you might like or dislike about it, the entire point of Thanksgiving has always been spending time with your loved ones and recalling everything that you’re thankful for.
