SEARCY, AR (LP) — Art has taken a part in everyday life for almost everyone on the earth. Either if it’s literal art, orchestra, band, or choir, everyone sees it all the time, everywhere. Dylan Miller, a sophomore at SHS says, “The form of art has influenced me the most is music. It affects how I feel and my mood. Although art allows me to express my imagination.” Imagination is a major key to art. Everyone can use different tools to participate in different parts of art.
We all are different people, but artists are looked at very differently. They stand up for what they believe, and then get hated on for it. “Artists are treated differently. They also dress differently because they see things differently than others,” says Dylan Miller. Artists see situations differently than normal everyday people. They take time to think on it, and evaluate. It is scientifically proven that openness is key to creative activity. The more open and rebellious the person is, the higher of creative activity there is in the person. That’s why artists are looked at differently. Because most are open with how they feel about situations, and rebellious they are with their clothing and art.
Graffiti is another subject with art. It’s also very controversial. Some of it can be vulgar, and not for children’s eyes. While others are beautiful pieces of art. Another point to graffiti is trespassing. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, nationally, the annual cost of monitoring, detecting, removing, and repairing graffiti damage, is around $15 to $18 billion. Trinity Raglin, a freshman at SHS says, “Graffiti is a way to show the artwork of insecure people who don’t want to go public with their work. If it’s vulgar, it shouldn’t be allowed. Even though they are showing their opinion on situations, it shouldn’t be in very public places.” Searcy now does have an art alley to show off artwork of members of the community.
Art is a way to express how people feel. Teenagers have a lot of emotions and need a way to get them out. Art is to use drawings, paintings, sculptures, and anything else to help teens cope with the way they feel. Orchestra is a way to help calm people down. Choir is used to get heard, and band can the same way. Searcy High School requires half a credit of fine arts to graduate. Dylan Miller says, “Art should be full credit. It allows kids to enjoy school and look forward to something where they can openly express themselves without being looked down upon.” Art takes place in everyone’s everyday life. It helps teens learn to be themselves and not look back.
