Crisis in the Middle East!

Iranian General Qasem Soleimani

Searcy, Ar. (LP) – This year is the start of the new decade and it started with an interesting start.  Australia is burning and the Middle East is in the middle of crisis – that could possibly threaten the world.  On January 3rd, Iranian General Qasem Soleimani was assassinated.  What followed was an outrage in Iran.  Social media blew up with talks of “World War 3” and how everyone was going to be drafted to go fight.  Of course people won’t be drafted. The United States draft hasn’t been used since the Vietnam war in the 60s’ – 70s’.

While the tensions between the United States and Iran have lowered down, they’re still high.  On social media, many people are asking for it to stop.  American citizens are split on who actually started this conflict. Some say President Trump for being reckless.  Others are saying Iran because of how they are.  “I think Trump is doing the right thing. We’ve been pushed around for too long and Trump is fighting back. I like what he’s doing,”  stated Nathan James.  Some even believe that Trump is starting this to cover up his impeachment.

Tensions between the two countries have been high for a while but they blew at the start of January.  Soleimani was stated to be the most dangerous man alive before he died. The United States took actions to assassinate him for protection of the U.S.  Soleimani was planning on attacking the US in some way. “Suleimani was plotting imminent and sinister attacks on American diplomats and military personnel, but we caught him in the act and terminated him,” said President Trump soon after the attack.  “I had never heard of him before he was killed, but no doubt it was probably dangerous,” said Nathan, “It was a good thing it happened. Trump is preventing attacks.”

Soon after Soleimani was assassinated in a drone strike, Iran made a statement. Iran stated that they would get their revenge on the United States.  A few days later, Iran shot missiles at an U.S. base in Iraq.  Thirty-four soldiers suffered brain injuries even though Donald Trump stated no one was harmed. The same day, a Ukrainian plane crashed and Iran has been blamed for shooting it down. “Iran shot down that plane. No doubt about it,” said former history teacher Cody Wimer, “I think Iran needs to step up to what they did and start to fix things with the U.S. Trump is unpredictable and who knows what’s going to happen next.”

The crisis in the Middle East is very interesting and it’ll be interesting to see how it turns out. Everyone will be watching over the next few weeks to see what happens next.
