President Trumps Impeachment Trial – What Now?

Searcy, AR. (LP) – Months after Donald Trump was impeached, the trial finally came to an end. After being accused of asking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of investigating Joe Biden and his son, Donald Trump was impeached.  Being impeached doesn’t mean that person is removed from office.  It actually means a charge of misconduct made against the holder of a public office. Since Trump was impeached, he brings the number of Presidents being impeached to three.  Andrew Johnson, Bill Clinton, and now Donald Trump have all been impeached.  The House of Representatives voted to move the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate.  After weeks of many people being questioned, the Senate voted on whether to remove President Trump or not.

On January 5th, the Senate voted on the removal of President Trump. The day before the vote, Donald Trump gave the State of the Union to the nation.  He talked about the economy and basically, how America was doing.  Some Democrats boycotted the State of Union in protest against Trump.  “I thought the speech was bad. He never mentioned the important issues of the world like climate change. I wasn’t surprised he mentioned it,” said Brenden Tinsley.

When Trump entered the house chamber, chants of “four more years” rang out. President Trump didn’t mention the impeachment at all and ignored it.  The Senate voted on two articles of impeachment, Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress.  “I don’t think he violated any of those. The Democrats are just crybabies and are trying to find anything to go against Trump. The trial was a waste of time,” said Joel North.

The vote for Article 1 turned out to be 52-48 with Trump not being guilty.  Republican Senate from Utah, Mitt Romney, was the first senator in history to go against his part in the impeachment trial. “I thought Mitt Romney did the right thing, and I wish more Republicans stepped up against him,” said Brenden. Even though he voted not guilty, it wasn’t enough.  The vote for Article 2 was 53-47 with Trump not being guilty for this one either.  With Trump being not guilty, he will not be removed from office.  President Trump, as many people are saying online, is acquitted forever. “I’m glad he’s acquitted. He didn’t do anything and he’s an innocent man,” said Joel.  The Democrats have hinted that they will continue investigating Trump, but only time will tell on that.  No matter the outcome, this impeachment trial is historical and will be talked about in hundreds of years.
