Searcy Beta Members Volunteer at Consignment Shop

Searcy, AR (LP) — Rhea Lana’s Children’s Consignment is a consignment shop that allows families to sell their old and unneeded well-known and expensive children’s clothes brands and also allows other families to purchase these articles of clothing at cheaper prices. This franchise takes place all over the nation and recently had hit Searcy just a couple of weeks ago. The consignment shop was set up in the old Fred’s building on Race Street where Searcy residents were allowed to sell their clothes and purchase some for an entire week.

The Searcy High School Beta Club is a club for students with high grade point averages who help out with the Searcy community. Beta Club saw this pop up consignment shop as a great way for their members and to reach out to their community and volunteer.

Students who participated in helping sort clothes at Rhea Lana’s earned 100 points. These points go towards earning a Beta cord for graduation. “The clothes sort was a good task to help others while also giving me a good amount of points,” explains Beta member Jack Williams.

Upon arrival, Beta members were ready to help out at the consignment shop any way they could. “At the Rhea Lana’s sort, we sorted the leftover clothes based on what kind of tag that particular article of clothing had. There were all different prints and kinds of tags. The prints determined what consigner each item of clothing went to,” says Amber Zentz, another Beta member.

With thoughts of the job that was ahead of them to be difficult, the Beta members were surprised to see how fast, easy, and even rewarding the task was. “I really enjoyed sorting through the clothes! I was able to meet a lot of new people and it surprisingly did not take as long as I thought it would. It is always great to be able to get out and talk to new people and even people from our school that I usually don’t,” said Zentz.

Beta members weren’t the only ones who volunteered to help out at the consignment shop. “My favorite part was seeing how many people showed up to help, not just from Beta, but from other organizations. It was a good experience and I will definitely go back next year,” explains Williams.

While not only did these students earn points for their work, they also gained new experience from sorting clothes and the great feeling that they did something good for their community.
