Is school Important or work?

Searcy, AR (LP) — Some students believe that school is more important then work but, some say that work is more important then school. “I think both are equally as important but the question really needs to be answered by the students/employee. If they can balance both work and school, it’s totally up to them to be responsible for what they can handle. Obviously school is most important for a student but if one want to work as well, they need to know how to balance it all,” said Jordan Morris General Manager Sonic Beebe Capps. Feelings of stress are normally triggered by things happening in your life which involve in being under lots of pressure, facing big changes, worrying about something. Situations and pressures that cause stress are known as stressors. Students  usually think of stressors as being negative, such as an exhausting work schedule or a rocky relationship. In school we can get stressed from multiple things like not being organized, poor eating habits, and Competition, however anything that puts high demands on you can be stressful.  But like students in high school stress can cause many things like a bunch of homework, sports events, clubs, bands and many other things. “With scheduling students, we are very flexible with the work hours. It’s the students/employees responsibility to let me know what the best schedule for them would be and I will make sure and meet those needs as best I can,” said Jordan Morris.

But sometimes students have jobs and it even stresses them more, like a big test the next day finish reading a 15 page book. As a student who is working at the same time, you should be ready to adapt to late nights with assignments, sudden work requests or unexpected errands. However, the most important thing to do here is to make enough studying time in your schedule because work is making money while getting an education is spending it. “Being an assistant manager and being a college student has its adversities. The hardest challenge of being a manager and a college student is finding balance. As a manager, I have a certain amount of hours I have to be working, as well making sure I’m studying and doing all my assignments on time. I work mainly night shift so everyday I’d have work at 3 pm and get off at 1 am. Waking up early and doing school work is always a struggle but it’s just something I have to live with and adapt to”. said Tristen Seibert.

Working at job it can cause multiple stresses like working long hours, heavy workload, job insecurity and conflicts with co-workers and bosses. And some might include like drop in work performance, depression, and anxiety and sleeping difficult. “Making the schedule isn’t difficult once it’s learned. We use a pretty user friendly system that helps build the schedule, forecast for the appropriate amount of business and sends it out to all employees. It is time consuming if doing it out to all employees. It is time consuming if doing it all at once, but usually I work on it little by little all week and then spend a good solid 1-2 hours looking everything over and making adjustments. the hardest thing about it is getting everybody exactly what they want taking care of business as well.” says Jordan Morris.

Senior, Maddie Lamb
“The most stressful situation I have been at in school would be the end of the first nine weeks this year. As a senior, I only have 4 primary classes. But, with three of those being AP/Honor classes along with Pre-Calculus, it’s a lot to juggle. The end of the nine weeks at school is always stressful just because grades are due. Many teachers are scheduling tests all in the last week. Which means you could have multiple tests and quizzes in a matter of one week. I think this is definitely the most difficult time for me because I do work outside of school while also trying to study for my tests and finishing my projects. The most stressful situations that I have been in at work would have to be our Harding rushes. Most of the time we never know when Harding Students will show up on our patio. It is very difficult mostly depending on how many people we have working at the time of the rushes,” said Maddie Lamb.

There are some ways where you can manage your stress by getting enough sleep, take regular breaks, being active in class and at work, make sure you eat well, take a little walk and also maintain your healthy lifestyle.
