Drug free week at SHS

Students at SHS dressing up for Red Ribbon Week.

Searcy, AR (LP) — Drug free week has come to Searcy High School!! With dressing up for the week to show the drug free spirit and showing off the red ribbons. Students and staff at Searcy High School show off their drug free spirit by dressing up for the week’s theme and wearing a drug free red ribbon. Although it may just seem like a fun time for school to go wacky, we celebrate Red Ribbon Week to honor the sacrifices of those brave souls that we have lost from drugs. Searcy High School fights against drugs and shows that they do by showing off and dressing as a theme everyday for the week.

Zimmeree Walford, a student at Searcy High School says “I’ve noticed that drug free week brings the school together by showing and dressing up for school.” Students and staff all dress up at SHS to show a fight against drugs. Zimmeree Walford goes on to say, “Yes it is to celebrate drug free but students find it fun to show off by dressing up and having fun with it too, but it is a week that I think a lot of students miss because this week is to show and honor those we lost from drugs.” Katelyn Stull, a Sophomore at SHS says,  “I love how the theme of the day has a meaning behind it such as spirit day where it showed that we are all drug free.” The theme of the day always has a meaning behind it. Students and staff come up with these certain themes that go with the week.

It is a great way to have fun but still honor those we lost to drugs. Katelyn Stull always says, “It was a lot of fun with the football players too. Even though it was drug free week it was also teacher appreciation day and we somehow always know how to mix days together in a good way.” Each football player gave a teacher their jersey for teacher appreciation day which just happened to be on the same Friday as the Drug Free Week. Everything mixed together and the students at Searcy High School can show appreciation for the teachers and the whole Searcy High School community can show that they fight against drugs.

Drug free week is to recognize and honor those that we lost to drugs. Red Ribbon Week is celebrated the week of October 23-31 annually. SHS dressed up and they turned a week of sorrow into a week that students at SHS can remember and still honor. Students at Searcy High School love when it comes to dressing up and knowing they are dressing up for a reason. Staff and students showed the drug free spirit, and they rocked it.
