According to humanrightswatch.com Russian aircraft dropped multiple unguided bombs simultaneously on March 3rd that hit an intersection in a residential neighborhood of Chernenko, a city in northeastern Ukraine. In late February the United States warned that Russia was gonna invade Ukraine, this set Russia off and Russia then sent more soldiers to the border. The President of the United States, Joe Biden says, “Putin cannot remain in power” and implies that the United States has stayed out of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Following up with everything that is happening between Russia and Ukraine, a history teacher at Searcy High School, Amanda Simpson, has been reading and following up on the whole conflict. She says, “In 2014 Putin actually invaded Ukraine and he annexed Crimea which was a region in Ukraine and that’s because in Putin’s brain the USSR still exist so in his mind he wants to reunite all the former Soviet states under one.” Which goes back to February 20th 2014 and Putin invaded Ukraine. Russia has been wanting to take over Ukraine since the middle ages and if Russia was to take over Ukraine then it would give Putin more power and resources. Mrs. Simpson goes on to explain, “What brought it back up this time in 2022 was the fact that Ukraine was attempting to join NATO.” NATO is an alliance organization that was created during the cold war as a protection against the solivets. It still exists and in recent years Ukraine has attempted to join NATO. Mrs. Simpson continues to say, “So Putin invaded Ukraine for two reasons, one to stop them from joining NATO and two to bring them back into Russia, to make them part of Russia again.” Since Putin has become president his goal is to take Ukraine and make it part of Russia again. With Ukraine wanting to join NATO and if Ukraine were to do so it would make Putin lose some amount of his power because he won’t have access to other resources and Russia won’t become an empire which is what Putin wants.
A junior at Searcy High School, Jacob Borst, has been keeping up with the whole conflict going on between Russia and Ukraine and tells what his thoughts are about the situation, “It’s early similar to multiple invitations in the past like they’re going after natural resources, they are trying annex into other countries that used to be part of a former pact.” Jacob goes into explaining how these wars are all the same. But even though they seem the same, more just seems to keep happening. Jacob says more information he has recently researched about, “Well right now Russia has a Convoy heading for Syria trying to take the capital and it’s making slow progress but it’s being attacked.” In 1990 Iraq invaded Kuwait and they said they came in under the invited under Revolutionaries so they can take over the country, Putin is saying that the people of Ukraine are appreciated and that they want him to be there. But that’s not true, Putin thinks and hopes that he wins battles when really he is just trying to get his power to be an unstoppable nation. Russia has been more held back with Ukraine fighting back.
