The band, with just coming back from contest, was given five new songs they have to learn, practice, and preform for the spring concert.
The five songs that they will be preforming are “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa, “Fiesta Tropicale” by Tito Puente, “The Patriot” by John Williams, “Crooner’s Serenade” by Justin Williams, and “Young Person’s Guide To John Williams” by John Williams and arranged by Jay Bocook.
After hearing a recorded version of the music and giving it a try their selfs most of students like the choices the directors, Cindy Burrow and Tony Luzzi, made.
“I like them,” Matthew Swan said. “They made good choices, and I think we can get better at them if we just practice more often.”
If the band had to pick between the new songs they are playing and the old songs that they played for contest, some students in band would say that they prefer the new songs that they are learning.
“I like the new songs better because we played the old songs so much that they started to get really old,” Bobby Sue Stone said. “And I am actually finally getting the hang of these songs.”
Out of the five songs there are many favorites in the band.
Reanna Bird said, “I like ‘Crooner’s Serenade’ and ‘The Patriot.'”
Even though the band enjoys the songs, they can be challenging if band players are not careful and don’t pay attention to the notes or to the directors.
“They were hard at first, but when I got how to count it and knew what notes to play and when it got way easier,” Chris Martin said
For anyone who wants to attend the spring concert and support the band, it will be held on May 6 in the performing arts center.
