Beginning this year, all students in spring sports have to take a conditioning class 7th period.
“It keeps us physically in shape for second semester sports like soccer, softball, baseball and track,” said sophomore Sarah Swain.
Many students think this class will be useful in keeping them fit and ready for their season.
“This is my first year in conditioning,” said senior Malik Freeman. “Some things we do in here is stepladders and toss a weight ball. I feel like it has helped me a lot with my stamina for soccer.”
Coach Bryant Turney said over the summer break, students usually get out of the routine of training and exercise.
“Basically what we do in here is train the students to keep them in shape for when their sport starts,” said Turney.
“Some of the stuff we do in here is run, lift weights, flexibility exercises, aerobic exercise, work on their agility, and foot speed coordination,” said Turney. “It is not specified for one sport, it is for all sports in general.”
Not all students are that happy about having to switch their last class for conditioning. For some students it has taken them out of a favorite class, because it replaces their 7th period class.
“I was in world history, and I did not really like it. When I was put into conditioning I realized World History was not near as bad as conditioning,” said Brooke Davis, sophomore.
