Facebook keeps students checking status

Facebook: It’s one of the most active social networking sites today.

But some argue whether or not Facebook is an addiction or just a guilty pleasure.

“It’s my favorite thing to get on,” Sophomore Ariel McCormack said. It’s just the most amazing thing ever. I moved away from my original school, so it’s a good way to keep in touch with all of my old friends.”

For some people, the downsides are obvious.

“It’s an addiction, that’s putting it plain and simple,” sophomore Emerald Noggle said. “The fact that everyone has it and they completely misuse it. I just don’t see why everyone ‘loves’ Facebook so much.”

Some say that Facebook helps with many things, that have to do with family, friends, school, and clubs.

“It helps me keep in touch with everyone, including my family. I even keep up with the many clubs that I’m in and the many school groups, along with the activities that the school has going on,” said McCormack.

It’s more of an every now and then kind of thing, for those who have more tests, homework, and studying to do.

While others were too busy on Facebook to be doing house work or their homework for that matter.

“When I get home the first thing I do is I log into Facebook, check everything, check up on everybody, and talk to a few people, and ‘scope out’ a few pictures,” McCormack said.

This isn’t the only “downside” to having Facebook, to some it “ruins” everything.

“I can never get my work done, because sometimes, when I do get on my account, I can never get off. Honestly I love Facebook, but I can’t get on it anymore because it is so addicting. I never get to study because I get on Facebook, and in return, I fail my classes, which is not good. As I said before, it ruins everything for me.”

But for others it’s not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

“Facebook actually helps me, I know that sounds like a lie, and just plain dumb, but I’m is serious. It actually helps me, I get to log onto Facebook, then I get done what I want and then in return I get my work done,” McCormack said. “Its just a guilty pleasure, there is no harm to it.”
