As most students have noticed, there is a construction zone for a new indoor practice facility.
“I’m excited for the athletes to have a new facility, I hope they appreciate it, and they take care of it, and they’ll leave it in condition for generations to come,” Mica Rose, chemistry teacher said.
However, as great as this new addition is to the athletic program, new problems have arisen.
“I can see the disadvantages,” said Rose. “Losing the parking spots next to the gym…the band does have to walk a little bit farther and that cuts into their practice time, and on the warmer days that just adds a little extra stress to them.”
It also leads to a more packed parking lot with less student spaces.
“Some disadvantages would be the parking space is a bit more crowded, and there’s more traffic going through for construction and the dump trucks,” senior Alex Feather said.
Traffic has also lead to problems for students and parents who pick up students in the gym parking lot.
“Carly, my sister, is in the band and she has to walk further than she normally does and all the band kids,” said junior Jordan Berbarian. “It’s a big inconvenience above the traffic.”
Despite all these negative factors, teachers and students still find hope in the long run.
“As far as my classes are concerned, I really don’t hear the construction, it isn’t nearly as bad as the great annex fall that we went through and that construction, but wehaven’t gotten into the really deep construction yet,” said Rose.
Most students are excited for this new indoor field house.
“I guess it’s going to be good; the younger kids are going to be able to use it, and it’s going to be a new facility, and they can use it to their advantage in the future,” said Feather. “I kind of wish I had the chance to use it.”
