Concert choir prepares for competition

The Searcy High School concert choir has the tradition of excellence according to choir teacher, Tina Niederbrach, and that means it’s not easy to be part of the group.

“You have to audition, which means you have some talent, and also able to do some sight reading because we learn our music fairly quickly because there is so much to learn” Niederbrach said.

This year’s concert choir has over sixty members.

“It’s actually the biggest class we’ve ever seen, in concert choir for the past few years,” said senior Lawrence Maizon. “The fact that we have so many people who will actually provide a good sound for us, and we’d actually do really good in competition with a lot of people. It would be good competition between our concert choir and our chamber choir.”

Choir has been a big influence on the lives of many choir members.

“It has actually affected my singing. It has helped me improve my singing,” Maison said. “During the day, I sometimes sing random songs, even choir songs, some days, if I know them.”

Niederbrach has high expectations for this year.

“You know, sometimes I think it just goes in cycles, we’re always going to be good,” Niederbrach said. “Some years there’s just that potential greatness, and it’s one of those years.”
