As the sixth week of school approaches, teachers are beginning to get back into their teaching routines.
But for biology teacher, Allan Fairbanks, it means getting used to new school.
“It’s been great. The students have been very good. The faculty and other teachers, they’ve been very supportive,” said Fairbanks. “It’s been neat just getting to know all the students and the faculty.”
Sophomores Ann Marie Temple and Jared Hillstead both agree that Mr. Fairbanks make biology interesting.
“I really like it,” said Temple. “He’s a good teacher, he knows how to tell us exactly what we’re learning, and he’s really good at explaining stuff.
Hillstead said he’s actually pretty cool.
“I like him,” Hillstead. “He’s a pretty chill guy so it’s cool being in his class.”
Fairbanks’ many animals have been a popular attraction among his students.
We usually go to the lab. He has animals, snakes actually, that he keeps in the back, and he teaches stuff about them,” Temple said. “He really gets us into everything. He makes everything really interesting.”
Sophomore Joe Kalinowski said he likes when Fairbanks talks about the snakes.
“I like his pets, the snakes,” Kalinowski. “He knows how to take care of them. He’s really good with them.”
Biology’s a subject that Fairbanks enjoys teaching.
Biology includes “a lot of the different things that you do in other subjects,” Fairbanks said. “So we get to write. We get to do that in a way where you take something and you use writing to get something out of it. We get to use math to take something, break it down, get data, and presend results,” said Mr. Fairbanks. “I just really enjoy it because it’s hands on, and you get to use a lot of those skills in a way that they’re intended to be used.”
Mr. Fairbanks plans to have a great year teaching biology.
